Why are we paying up to £2,500 a ton for imported art glass when we can refine and upcycle the waste glass that is currently a major ecological problem?Glass Gallery

The Upcycled Glass Company (UGC) is a new community interest organisation that exists to help the regional community, and the glassmaking community as a whole. We aim to reduce the costs of running a glassblowing workshop by 70%, and kick-starting a renewed studio glass sector. We will create a network of small businesses that aims to tackle the growing ecological problem of what to do with the mountains of end of life building glass that currently goes to landfill.
We have a fantastic team of experts who have a passion for glass, recycling and our environment. Our team includes the owner of a Dartmoor farm, master glassmakers, award winning designers, scientific experts, a history, heritage and conservation expert, digital product manager and project administrator. The founder of UGC, Ian Hankey, is a trained gas and furnace engineer, master glassmaker and CAD CAM specialist.
This is a project that uses cutting edge digital technologies and tried and tested ‘common sense’ glassmaking and farming methodologies, some dating as far back as the 17th century.
